Baby take a Lick???

One of our biggest battles is food.

If you think you have a picky kid you haven't met Aiden. His sensory issues often make meal time a tear filled nightmare. I have scarfed down countless meals while he screamed at his plate. This is not one of those happy Mom moments, heartburn is just an added bonus.

Aiden has extreme visual issues with food. If it looks funny he will not even touch it. We have struggled with pasta shape, tortilla color, hamburger flatness. It's crazy.

If you can get past the visual, big if, temperature is next. If its more than room temperature you already lost the battle. HOT can be heard down the block as Mommy attempts to not roll her eyes. Provided its the perfect temperature he will touch it.

Most things don't get past touch as texture is an even bigger issue than temperature. If it does make it past the fingers into the mouth it's most often spit out immediately as he doesn't like the feel on his tongue.

People keep telling me to sneak things into stuff. He knows. Then he never, and I mean never, touches that food again. It is the next thing his occupational therapist will be working on and I am soooo praying for progress and helpful tools to make meal time a happy time.

She asked for a list of food he will eat.

Easy. He eats a grand total of 11 things at almost three years old. Rice Chex, muffins, pancakes, oatmeal, bananas, plain eggs, plain hamburger patties, chicken nuggets, pizza, some chips, and cookies. That's all, no really, that's it!

His therapist told us to start working on touching, kissing, and licking. We have played with food as much as he allows. We're much much better about touching and sometimes we will kiss, once in a blue moon we get a lick.

Today we went from screaming to playing and in a strange turn of events we kissed AND licked everything on our plate. Ham, potatoes, broccoli, and strawberries. WHATTTTT?!!!

There is light at the end of the tunnel my friends, blessed light!
