We live in the apartment to the right of the oarnge shovel :) and based on pictures we have seen around the complex we are glad we will be gone before Winter arrives!
Welcome to our living room. We love the couches, they are super comfy! Notice our "art" which from a distance in pictures doesn't look entirely bad. They have been up for a few hours now and while not perfect they are growing on me and certainly help break up the monotony of the white that surrounds us.
The other side of our living room is random and not attractive. Notice the coffee table with "entertainment center" on top. This is arrangement three or four of our no doored tv cart adventure. We seem to have found something that works and Aiden hasn't unplugged anything recently. Score!
The area is of course much cuter when there is a cute little monkey playing in it!
Our downstairs bath is tiny but it is nice to have a second bath. We didn't do much to it, except randomly throw a couple of our least favorite paintings up on the wall. We hung them by a single push pin so they dangled like laundry, it's kind of fun.
Our dining room is an extension of our living room and it is carpeted. You may or may not notice the nice rug posing as a drop cloth under Aiden's chair!!!
Our kitchen has both a window and a dishwasher, it is pure bliss!
My favorite "decor" item is actually a solution to a problem. None of the drawers are wide enough for silverware so we have them in cute glasses picnic style. It might just be something that we continue elsewhere!
The master bedroom is fairly sparse, but that is okay because we don't do anything upstairs but sleep. More on that later.
The dresser is huge, as is the closet. It is a welcome relief from the "closet" at home! With the little we brought storage is certainly not a problem and I am loving how easy it is to clean!!!
We certainly have a retro bathroom. If we were here longer I might try to do something cute with it, but instead I just try to close my eyes or laugh a little. We threw a couple of baskets in there for storage and were grateful we went with simple white bathroom linens as bathrooms can be "interesting" in apartments. Aiden's room is hard to photograph, but there you have it, a dresser end table and "crib" are all his room boasts of.
This view of Aiden's room presents the largest problem we have faced in our new surroundings. The wall air unit in our room does NOT reach Aiden's room and it was smoldering with no air flow for the first several days we were here. Several sleepless nights were spent as we attempted to fix the problem and get him back to his room. Our third and fourth fan options seemed to be the problem solvers.
His window has a fan air unit in it, the window is too large so the other side of the window is blocked off. The unit pulls the air out of his room which also pulls the cool air from our room into his. He then also has a box fan in his floor to provide some circulating air. Luckily it is much cooler here than back home and this solution while not perfect has certainly made his room bearable.
Obviously with an open window all toys have been removed from his room and we do NOT play upstairs at all. As in ever. We did put a baby gate in his window and I am 90% certain he couldn't get it out, 150% certain we would hear him if he tried. That still isn't enough for me. So we play downstairs, and sleep upstairs.
While there are aspects of our new place that certainly are not perfect it has been an adventure figuring out how to live in the space and work with what we have. For better or for worse, for just a while...it is home.
